Using Essential Oils

young living lavender

Lavender – (Lavandula angustifolia) is the most versatile of all essential oils.
Therapeutic-grade lavender has been highly regarded for the skin. Lavender has
been clinically evaluated for its relaxing effects. It may be used to cleanse
cuts, bruises and skin irritations. The fragrance is calming, relaxing and
balancing — physically and emotionally.

1. Rub Lavender oil on the feet for a calming effect on the body.
2. Rub a drop of Lavender oil on your palms and smooth on your pillow to help
you sleep.
3. Put a drop of Lavender oil on a bee sting or insect bite to stop itching and
reduce swelling.
4. Put 2-3 drops of Lavender oil on a minor burn to decrease pain.
5. Drop Lavender oil on a cut to stop the bleeding.
6. Mix several drops of Lavender oil with V-6 Vegetable Mixing Oil and use
topically on eczema and dermatitis.
7. To alleviate the symptoms of motion sickness, place a drop of Lavender oil on
the end of the tongue or around the naval or behind the ears.
8. To stop a nosebleed, put a drop of Lavender oil on a tissue and wrap it
around a small chip of ice. Push the tissue covered ice chip up under the middle
of the top lip to the base of the nose and hold as long as comfortable or until
the bleeding stops (do not freeze the lip or gum).
9. Rub a drop of Lavender oil over the bridge of the nose to unblock tear ducts.
10. Rub Lavender oil on dry or chapped skin.
11. Rub a drop of Lavender oil on chapped or sunburned lips.
12. To reduce or minimize the formation of scar tissue, massage Lavender oil on
and around the affected area.
13. Rub 2 – 4 drops of Lavender oil over the armpit area to act as a deodorant.
14. Rub a drop of Lavender oil between your palms and inhale deeply to help
alleviate the symptoms of hay fever.
15. Rub several drops of Lavender oil into the scalp to help eliminate dandruff.
16. Place a few drops of Lavender oil on a cotton ball and place in your linen
closet to scent the linens and repel moths and insects.
17. Place a drop of Lavender oil in your water fountain to scent the air, kill
bacteria and prolong the time between cleanings.
18. Place a few drops of Lavender oil on a wet cloth and throw into the dryer,
which will deodorize and freshen your laundry.
19. Put a drop of Lavender oil on a cold sore.
20. Diffuse Lavender oil to alleviate the symptoms of allergies.
21. Spritz several drops of Lavender oil mixed with distilled water on a sunburn
to decrease pain.
22. Drop Lavender oil on a cut to clean the wound and kill bacteria.
23. Apply 2-3 drops of Lavender oil to a rash to stop the itching and heal the
skin.
24. For pink eye, rub a drop of Lavender oil in a circle around the eye – over
brow bone to temple to top of cheek bone to bridge of nose. (Caution: do not
get too close to eye or on eyelid. It’s not harmful but discomfort may occur.)

Peppermint Oil for Nausea and Other Things

Peppermint is one of my top 5 MUST HAVE essential oils.
I always have 3 bottles, one for my purse, one next to
my bed and one in the kitchen.

Peppermint is wonderful for lots of things but headaches
and nausea are my favorite uses.

I wish I had known about peppermint for nausea when I was
pregnant with my son. I had morning sickness morning,
noon and night all the way through the pregnancy and
into the delivery room. I was throwing up every hour
most of the time. I’d have about 30 minutes after throwing
up where I felt good but then the nausea started again and
another 30 minutes a mad dash to the bathroom to heave my
guts out. There is only so much puking, then you have dry
heaves. Fun times!!

My doctor was concerned because the baby needs nourishment
so he prescribed a drug for morning sickness. That didn’t
help so he decided to give me a drug that paralyzed the
stomach muscles.

Well, that was JUST LOVELY!! I now felt nausea 24 hours a
day but could not throw up. They couldn’t let me use that
drug in the last month of my pregnancy so they took me off
it and I was back to throwing up, all through the 9th month.
I was even puking in the delivery room.

I really wish I knew about peppermint oil back then. I also
wish I had not been so trusting. I mean, surely the doctor
isn’t going to prescribe anything unhealthy, is he? Well,
a few years later I learned one of those drugs was removed
from the market because it caused birth defects.

Since then I have learned a lot about natural ways to do
things. Ways that aren’t so dangerous for my health and
the health of my child.

Peppermint is one oil I use all the time for nausea. I get
nausea when I go too long without eating, or if I get migraines
or motion sickness. Peppermint stops it PRONTO! I just put a
drop on my tongue. You can also rub a bit on your tummy but
I usually just put it on my tongue.

One drop is all I need for motion sickness or when I
waited too long to eat.

For headaches, I put a couple drops on my fingers and rub
the back of my neck, temples, then cup your hands and breathe
the remaining oil for about 1 minute.

I use empty NingXia Red bottles for making peppermint
water. You can add whatever oil you prefer. Lemon or
grapefruit are other oils I like occasionally. Always use
glass cups or bottles whenever you are using essential
oils in the water. Essential oils break down
petrochemicals in the plastic. You don’t want to ingest
those toxins from the plastic. Always use GLASS.

(great idea with the glass bottles…..from the NingXia Red)

Peppermint is very energizing. There are many ways to
use it for energy. You can inhale it, drink it in water, rub a
drop on your thumbs or big toes (brain points) or put a
drop on your tongue
.

Try this little energizing technique: Put a drop on your
tongue, then touch the tip of your tongue to the roof of
your mouth, then suck air like you are sucking through a
straw. That is soooo energizing. I love it.

Another great thing about using peppermint oil for energy
is that there is no calories and no carbs in a drop of
peppermint. It is much healthier than the energy drinks
out there.

I use peppermint in water if I ate a meal that didn’t agree
with me or when I get that after meal tiredness.

Peppermint is also anti-inflammatory and is wonderful to
relieve pain. I use it for injuries and arthritis pain

Peppermint is one you need to be careful of if you have
high blood pressure. It can raise blood pressure in some
people.

Try putting a drop of peppermint on your finger and rub
the side of your nose to relieve a stuffed up nose.

(I use for stuffy nose too, but I dilute it with a drop of V-6 mixing
oil or coconut oil……as it can be strong!)
Catherine

Alan Hirsh, M.D., found that peppermint stimulated the
brain’s satiety center and was useful in curbing appetite.

Peppermint feels wonderful on an exercise-stressed
muscles or joints.

Injuries: Apply peppermint oil immediately to bumps and
bruises to relieve pain.

Cool off on a Hot Day: Drink a drop of Peppermint oil
mixed in a glass of cold water.

Sometimes I put a drop on the back of my neck to cool
down during hot weather……Catherine

Poison Ivy or Poison Oak: Apply Peppermint oil on
location neat or dilute with V-6 Vegetable Mixing Oil.

Poison Ivy -  Help with Itching
1 cup of cold water
¼ cup of cider vinegar
9 drops of Lavender essential oil
3 drops of Peppermint essential oil
2 drops of Roman Chamomile oil
Blend well. Place in plastic bowl with tight sealing lid.
This blend is great to keep cool in your refrigerator. Soak
a washcloth in this solution to gently apply to area of skin
with the poison ivy.

Itching: Apply a drop of peppermint oil topically on
unbroken skin to stop itching.

Insect Repellent:

Add 10 drops of peppermint to a 4 oz.
bottle of distilled water. This is my favorite insect
repellent for working in the garden. It works wonders to
keep the biting Deer Flies off.  I have had no bites while
using this simple formula. Be careful not to get any near
your eyes.

Take the peppermint water and spray where insects
enter your house.

DID YOU KNOW:
* Peppermint is grown & distilled by Young Living on
their farms in Mona, Utah, Idaho, & France.

* Young Living peppermint is now being distilled as soon as it
is cut rather than letting it sit for 3 days as is standard in the
industry. This has resulted in 40% Methone in the
peppermint oil. The best time to harvest peppermint is as it
comes into fresh flower. Letting it lie has the carbons
co-mingle. One of the professors of agronomy agrees with
the method that Gary is using and says they are the best.

* YLEO now has I.S.O. 9000 Certification. This is a BIG
DEAL! Auditors come into a company’s operation twice a
year for 3 years and check everything out and if they are
satisfied with the quality then they give this certification and
they never question the company again.

* Young Living is the largest grower of essential oil plants in
the world.

2. Peppermint Essential Oil: Profile of a Powerful Plant

Mention peppermint, and many people instantly think of
candy canes or those delightful after-dinner mints.
But peppermint is, as many of you know, a powerful
essential oil.

A cyber-stroll through the National Library of Medicine
(PubMed) turns up just under one hundred abstracts of
scientific studies on peppermint essential oil. These
studies resulted in fascinating conclusions about this
remarkable oil.

Surprising Effects
Peppermint oil applied topically for tension-type
headaches was studied in a randomized,
placebo-controlled, double-blind study at Christian
Albrechts University in Germany (Badia et al., 1990).
The conclusion? “Peppermint oil seems to be a harmless
and effective treatment for tension-type headaches.”
University of Kiel researchers also found that peppermint
oil and a mixture of peppermint and eucalyptus
oil reduced headaches. (Ref. 1 – References are at the
end of this article) The same study showed peppermint to
be effective in reducing emotional irritation,
depression, and apathy (inactivity).

Research published in 2001 in the Journal of Sport
and Exercise Psychology found that inhalation of
peppermint increased athletic performance in humans.
Volunteer runners finished the 400-metcr dash faster,
had significant strength (determined by handgrip),
and could complete more pushups after inhaling
peppermint oil (Raudenbush, 2001).

Peppermint at School and at the Office
Brainiacs take heart-peppermint is not just for the
athletically inclined. A 2003 study conducted at
Wheeling Jesuit University found that peppermint
improved clerical productivity. (Ref. 2) Participants
showed marked improvement in a card-sorting task as
well as in typing accuracy and typing speed. The
researchers concluded: “These results suggest
peppermint odor may promote a general arousal of
attention, so participants stay focused on their task and
increase performance.”

Glutathione Declines Reversed
A 2003 study published in the Journal of Radiation
Research (Ref.3)  found that ingesting peppermint oil
reversed declines in glutathione caused by treatment with
gamma radiation. Glutathione is the most important
antioxidant and detoxification enzyme in the liver. In
this study, peppermint essential oil reduced levels of
oxidized (or rancid) fats in the tissues caused by radiation
damage. (While you will not encounter this kind of
radiation in normal life, the study showed that peppermint
had antioxidant-protecting properties.) A 2004 follow-up
study in Phytotherapy Research (Ref. 4)  confirmed
these findings.

Don’t Forget the Tummy!
The word “dyspeptic” covers a multitude of
gastrointestinal complaints. Researchers at Epson
General Hospital in England wrote: “Peppermint (Menthe
pepirita) is usually taken after a meal for its ability to
reduce indigestion and colonic spasms by reducing the
gastrolic reflex.” (Ref. 5) But, they continued, “Less well
recognized is peppermint’s potential role in the
management of numerous other medical conditions
including certain procedures, eg, colonoscopy.” At least
two studies support this use of peppermint’s innate ability
to control spasms. (Ref. 6,7)

For a small child who may have a tummy ache, an
expectant mom experiencing morning sickness, or a
person with “non-ulcer dyspepsia,” peppermint is a
traditional help Researchers at the University of
Exeter’s Department of Complementary Medicine
looked at seventeen clinical trials, including nine
studies involving peppermint and caraway constituents of
herbal  medicine products, and reported that 60-95
percent of patients reported improvements in symptoms.
(Ref. 8)

Does peppermint kill germs? Absolutely (Ref. 9,10)
Peppermint has antioxidant properties to boot. And
peppermint has been tested for safety in one study which
noted only “isolated clinical cases of irritation and/or
sensitization” and concluded “peppermint oil was not a
sensitizer when tested using maximization protocol.”
(Ref. 11)

Celebrate the many benefits of this wonderful,
invigorating essential oil.

A note from  Frances Fuller

Thank you for confirming that your friend is on dialysis 3 times a week.  Since he is on dialysis, it could be helpful to use essential oils that support the kidneys topically, rather than taken internally which would have to be processed by both the liver and the kidneys as both may be quite stressed.

Kidney failure often occurs after years of taking medications for high blood pressure, so oils that are supportive for circulatory challenges can also be helpful.

Perhaps you may choose to try the following:

  • AROMA LIFE – apply 2 drops over heart and cup hands over nose, inhaling deeply several times.  This can be done 3-4 times daily.
  • JUNIPER has been studied for its ability to support the kidneys.  When layered with LEMONGRASS, it has a synergistic effect that makes it far more powerful.  Apply 2 drops JUNIPER over each kidney; wait 2 minutes, and apply 2 drops LEMONGRASS over each kidney.  Wait 2 minutes, and use warm wet compress over area for 5-10 minutes.  This can be done 3-4 times each day.
  • JUVAFLEX is especially helpful for supporting the liver.  Apply 2 drops over liver 3-4 times each day.
  • GERANIUM supports hormonal balance and can be helpful in creating an attitude in which healing can take place.
  • OCOTEA is a new oil from deep in the jungles of Ecuador and has show impressive results in balancing the pH of the body as well as overall digestion.  If your friend’s body was extremely acidic (as most of us are), it could have been the root cause of his kidney challenges because the blood becomes “sticky” and thick when we are acidic.  Then it takes more pressure to push the thicker blood through the tiny veins, and often people take medications to reduce the blood pressure, which in turn adversely affects the kidneys.  (It is all connected, isn’t it???)  Ocotea is highly effective dropping 2 drops under the tongue and allowing them to absorb into the tissues of the mouth.
  • COPAIBA has the effect of magnifying the effects of the other essential oils.  This can be applied over the kidneys or over the liver or over the heart 3-4 times a day after the other oils are applied.  (Remember to wait 2 minutes between oils.)

CELLULITE

Someone asked, “Has anyone had success getting rid of cellulite?”

Yes, I have had great success! I take a full 15 ml bottle of grapefruit oil and
I add it to a bottle of Cel-Lite Magic [massage oil]. I then apply it topically to the
cellulite on my body. I also take grapefruit oil every day. I have very little
cellulite left. I also drink a lot of water. It may take a few months of using
it everyday to see it melt away!

I am sure exercise would help this work faster. I do not exercise other than
chasing my kids and cleaning my house!

DRY SKIN

Our skin is a mirror for what is going on inside the body.  Therefore, that is a great place to start . . .

  • Does she consume a MINIMUM of 2 liters of WATER?  NOTE:  Other “liquids” do NOT count toward that total.
  • Does she drink coffee or alcohol?  Both are quite dehydrating.
  • Has she tried the Young Living ART SKIN CARE with BEAUTY SERUM FOR DRY SKIN?  (She mentioned using Nivea, which has a petroleum based.  Although it “feels” as if it is moisturizing, it is actually extremely drying as well as toxic to the body.)
  • SANDALWOOD MOISTURE CRÈME is a highly effective moisturizer for the entire body – and it takes only a TINY bit!

~ ~ ~

ACIDITY

Most of us live in highly acidic bodies.  Everyone who attends my classes knows that I talk about the “three poisons” that are the greatest offenders . . . and the fourth which ic not what we put into our mouths:

Poison #1      SUGAR

`        Poison #2      CAFFEINE

Poison #3      DAIRY

And . . . STRESS . . .

Fortunately, almost every therapeutic-grade essential oil can assist in relieving STRESS . . . but we have to use them!  Dr. Dan Purser stated that EVERYONE on the planet should carry STRESS AWAY ROLL-ON with them at all times and use it many times every single day.  This alone can bring down the levels of acidity which negatively impact everything in the body.

In addition to using the oils and avoiding sugar, caffeine, and dairy, we need to DRINK WATER – MINUMUM 2 LITERS EVERY DAY.   Since I began adding 5 drops LEMON essential oil to 1 liter water and drinking it first thing in the morning, my level of acidity has improved . . . AND all digestive upsets such as bloating, heartburn, acid reflux, gas, and most of my aches and pains associated with “arthritis” and my headaches have disappeared as well!!!  WOW, what a bonus!!!

NOTE:  Most people cannot “drink a liter of water” first thing in the morning unless they work up to it . . . so begin by drinking ONE GLASS of water +5 drops lemon essential oil for a day and then make it TWO GLASSES + 5 drops lemon for a day or two . . . and the THREE glasses . . . and finally move up to FOUR glasses (1 liter) . . .

CLEANSING is the next step . . . Use the link below to read about this.

STRETCH MARKS

Gary Young created “TENDER TUSH” specifically for his wife Mary so she would avoid stretch marks during pregnancy – and she has none.  It is in the Kidscents section as it is also great for babies to avoid diaper rash and for wound healing.

If you already have stretch marks, then the blend, SCAR-B-GONE, may assist in eliminating them.  The recipe can be found at this link:

POLYCYSTIC OVARIES

There are many women who have completely recovered from polycystic ovaries by working with the Young Living therapeutic-grade essential oils and supplements.  The fact that your client has been taking synthetic hormones (birth control medications) may mean that it will take longer for her body to return to balance.

I offer a free class “Let’s Talk About Hormones”, and we cover the information she would find helpful.  Without going into all the details of the class, GERANIUM + ENDOFLEX + PROGESSENCE CRÈME have brought almost immediate balance for many, many women, particularly when combined with BASIL, CEDARWOOD, and FRANKINCENSE.  They can be layered one at a time over the lower abdomen.  However, basil may be even more effective when put on a cotton tampon and inserted into the vagina.  It should be replaced twice a day.

Please remember that I am referring to the Young Living essential oils as other brands may be harmful to apply in this manner.

NOTE:  The NEW PROGESSENCE +, which was just introduced, is producing even more rapid benefits than Pregessence Crème, for those who were part of the clinical trials during development .

PROGESTERONE AND CANCER
Many thanks to Charlene for sharing the answer she received from Dr. Dan Purser.
I had Breast Cancer in 2002 it was a estrogen receptor positive (The EODR tells you which essential oils you can’t use) and I had chemo. I attended 2010 YL convention and while Dr. Dan Purser MD was on Demo stage he took my question if I could use PROGESSENCE PLUS after I had ERP breast cancer he told me “YES -  and a lot of it!” Hope this helps you.

Note:  Please remember that Young Living uses only progesterone derived 100% from nature – NOT progesterone produced in a laboratory.  Synthetically produced substances react quite differently in the human body.

SUDDEN HEARING LOSS

In cases of sudden hearing loss rather than gradual decrease, it may be appropriate to consider that there could be some trauma that occurred – physical or emotional.  There is a blend, TRAUMA LIFE, which could be helpful.  I am sure that you must be frustrated and a bit frightened by this, and I do understand.  However, it may take some time and patience.  I still keep feeling that because it is “sudden”, it is something that can be reversed.  We simply need to find the key for balance to be restored.

If it were me, I would use TRAUMA LIFE around the back of the entire ear and down the neck along the Eustachian tube.  I would also apply it on the BRAIN STEM (the soft semi-circle at the base of the skull in the center at the back and along cervical spine on the back of the neck.  After applying, I would cup my hands over my nose, inhaling deeply several times and intending that the molecules go wherever they are needed to assist the body in coming into perfect balance.

Trauma Life is a blend of valerian, lavender, frankincense, sandalwood, rose, helichrysum, spruce, geranium, davana, and cistus.

Based upon all the information about FRANKINCENSE that was given at the recent Young Living convention, I would also apply frankincense to my brainstem and ear before applying Trauma Life.  Frankincense can eliminate inflammation as well as assist in the healing on all levels – physical, emotional, and energetic.

Information from the Essential Oils Desk Reference on using Helichrysum and Purification for hearing loss follows . . .

HEARING LOSS/IMPAIRMENT

The two essential oils that have been used most often in cases of hearing loss are HELICHRYSUM and PURIFICATION.  There is a technique which Gary Young demonstrated several years ago in which the oils are put on the index finger and inserted into the ears.  In addition, one of the members in Singapore used several oils as he indicates, and his hearing improved.
Vita Flex Technique FOR Hearing Impairment

Information from Essential Oils Desk Reference, Essential Science Publishing

• Make sure that your fingernails are short. Place 1-2 drops of helichrysum, on each index finger.

• Standing behind the person, gently insert index fingers into the person’s ears. Have the person hold head firmly against your chest.

• Rotate your hands (with the index fingers still inserted in ears) until the palms face upward.  Lift fingers alternately (in a rocking motion) 10 times in each ear to a count of 20.

• Rotate hands 90 degrees until the palms face backwards. Pull back alternately 5 times in each ear to a count of 10.

• Rotate hands 90 degrees until the palms face downward. Press down alternately 5 times in each ear to a count of 10.

• Rotate hands 90 degrees until the palms face backward. Put thumbs behind the fingers.  Push forward alternately 5 times in each ear to a count of 10.

• Rotate hands 90 degrees back to starting position (palms facing upward). Lift both fingers up once and let down slowly.

• Rotate fingers 90 degrees back and remove slowly.

• Grasp ear lobes, pull down and release.

For the average hearing loss problem, massage Purification on ear lobe, behind the ears, and down the jaw line (along the Eustachian tube).

Personal experience . . .

Although I’m younger than you, I have hearing difficulty in my right ear for many years.  Not sure whether it was caused by handphone.  I used to feel pain after using the handphone some years ago.  Last month till early April, my ear was badly “blocked” that one Sunday early this month, I could hardly hear in my right ear.  I was really anxious but I did not panic.
I looked up the reference guide – Instructions to increase and restore hearing -
1.  Rub Valor on bottom of feet, especially 2 smallest toes and smallest fingers
2.  For each ear, layer 2 drops of Helichrysum, Purification, Juniper, and Peppermint around the inside (no deep) and back of ear, on the mastoid bone (behind ear), along the bottom of the skull around to the back of head, and won the brain stem.
3.  Ear adjustments – pull ear up, back, down, forward
4.  Rub Geranium all around back and front of ear.
I felt the soreness at the back (right side) of the skull and to the mastoid bone.  Over the next few days, I continue to apply oils and massage the soreness away.  After that, my hearing has been restored – the best in many months and years.
